On Monday this week a rocket blasted off with a collection of satellites which included STRaND-1 cubesat which was developed by researchers from the University of Surrey and SSTL. The satellite was built using commercial off the shelf bits and more impressively a Google Nexus One to-do all the interesting research bits of the project.

Since its launch I’ve been monitoring and passing on any recordings or data decodes onto the guys at STRaND-1 who’ve have been very active on Twitter and appear to have gotten themselves a good following.

Today I was able to get my first data decodes (till then it was audio recordings only) using the Funcube Dongle Pro+, SDRSharp, Audio VAC, AGWPE Engine and a application called AGW Online Kiss, at first I wasn’t getting much results but with a little help from Jan (PE0SAT) I was in business.

At the moment there’s not an application to make sense of the data, but there’s an excel spreadsheet that gives you all the information to-do this manually.

I’ll continue to monitor the satellite as it continues its mission.
