This weekend I decided to have a play in the IARU HF Championship contest, its actually been a while since I took part guess other things got in the way like work! Non the less this weekend as free so over 6 hours I decided to have a play doing some search and pounce.

I was pleased to see 10m open for a while and although produced no DX for me was great working stations around Europe. 15m provided a large amount of stations and even managed to work into W & VE however I only managed 1 QSO into NA on 20m and that was a struggle Saturday evening. I have to admit I didn’t really try too hard on the low bands picking up 35 QSOs on 40m which was 100% Europe and a miserable three on 80m which isn’t a surprise considering the antenna isn’t that great!

Sunday I only worked 5 stations conditions hard going, so retreated to watch some TV and cook some brunch. Ending the contest with 205 QSOs and a estimated score of 46,851.

Equipment

  • Yaesu FT-950 (50w)
  • 1/2 G5RV with 80m loading coils
  • Win-Test
